More Aussie Pics - Cairns/ Green Island / Great Barrier Reef

Ok, I realize it's almost February and I'm still posting pics from our trip in November, but let's be honest, I was hibernating for the entire month of December, so let's all just give me a pass thankyouverymuch.  I actually think it's fun to draw out our trip for so long and try to stretch the good times for as long as possible.  God knows after Floodageddon and not being able to work for so long, we certainly won't be able to afford another vacay for quite a while, so we might as well bask in the shadow of our last vacation for as long as possible.  :)

After Ayer's Rock, we flew to Cairns, in the Northeast part of the country.  We stayed just one night, had a glorious breakfast and a walk around the Esplanade on the water in the morning before taking a boat to Green Island, where we stayed for the next 2+ days.

We stayed on the Island Resort which is in the Great Barrier Reef and the resort was absolutely AMAZING!!!  It was so tropical and lush and our room was gorgeous.  I loved sitting out on our private balcony reading my Kindle and just listening to the sounds of the rainforest birds.

The island itself was amazing too - very tropical but small, fun to explore.  The day we got there, we snorkled around the island.  It's funny, the deadliest jellyfish there are so tiny you can't actually see them coming, so they recommend you wear these jellyfish suits, like really thin wetsuits - super nerdy looking, but at least you don't have to wear sunscreen.  Kinda funny, though, they have hoods and mittens and the whole shebang, I mean, you are FULLY clothed.  It's like a burka but for the water!
Here's the before:
 And the after:

Snorkeling around the island was perfect for this dizzy girl - I obviously took a lot of medication, plus luckily the water was super calm and we just went out for about an hour to try it out.  It did jack me up for a day but it was worth it and there was no way I was going to go all the way to the GBR and NOT get in the water.  No way.  We saw tons of fish and turtles (my favorite!) and here's a few shots and video to highlight, then the rest will be on the link at the bottom.

That night was wonderful - it was actually Thanksgiving and the staff were so sweet - they packed up a gourmet picnic dinner for Rob and I and we had a completely private picnic dinner on the beach at sunset - just the 2 of us!!!  It was so romantic and unforgettable, definitely one of my favorite Thanksgivings of all times.
I love this seagull photo bomb:

The next day we did a fully day out to the outer Great Barrier Reef for a snorkeling excursion and again, I just pushed through my symptoms and rallied and I'm so grateful I did.  It was absolutely INCREDIBLE - the visibility was amazing, the fish diversity was fantastic and we were both in awe!

Again with the nerdy jellyfish suits!

 turtle!!!

That night we had a delicious dinner at the restaurant at the resort, it was so romantic and special.

And the last morning on the island, we walked around the entire island on the beach and it was so cool, we didn't see another soul - it was just Rob and I and we just experienced all the wildlife and beauty that was Green Island - it was like being on the movie Castaway except without Wilson, and of course minus the sadness and despair.  We even saw a manatee!!!  How cool is that!!!
