Ski bunnies are back again, baby!

We went back to Mammoth again a few weeks ago and again we had such a blast. I'm so grateful I'm able to load up on my meds and ski...when I thought it was an activity possibly out of my realm for a while, I felt so much grief. It's awesome beyond words not to have to give it up, and Rob says I have a huge grin on my face the whole time...though I'm not surprised. I'm in heaven!

It was super sunny and perfect spring skiing conditions, the warmest weather and only like skiing in a warm slurpee at the very bottom.

After two days of hitting the slopes hard, we were pooped and on our drive home, we had the bonehead idea to "drop by" the ancient Bristlecone Forest which we thought was just off the main drag. Well, little did we know it was a winding 45 minute drive off the main highway (when we had another 6 hour drive in front of us) and when we got there, the freakin' road was closed! Sorry, folks, moose out front shoulda told ya.

Then came bonehead move #2: we thought "oh, I'm sure it's not far to hike in to see the trees, we've come this far, let's just hike in and we'll be right back in no time". Um, didn't the Dahlmer party say that? Cripes. 2 hours of steep hike through snow and ice later, (and mind you, I can't even describe the crazy wind we faced...we were above tree line and it was madness how the wind would almost knock us over) we finally got there. And the kicker? Yah, the trees are somewhere around 4000 years old, so that's cool and all, but I don't even think they're that pretty. But after that hike, to be fair, unless they were covered in chips and guacamole and gave out massages, nothing would have been pretty. We're dum dums. But at least we burned some awesome calories. And saw some ancient trees.

Illegally gotten, park is closed, we almost died from exhaustion plank.

We live! Now get me a milkshake.
