The Big Move!!! (part 1)

I can't believe it's been 21 days since my last post, it's never been that long in the history of posting! It's almost like a confessional: bless me father, for I have neglected my blog. It's been 21 days since my last post....

We're obviously been more than a little busy and preoccupied with the new house, so things like TV and internet have been sitting neglected and gathering dust. You should see our Tivo list, it's huge! There's just been so many projects and things to do, it's hard to sit still and veg out, it's like a new-found case of ADHD. But, I get ahead of myself....we moved!

On September 7th we had our last official walk through on our house, 2 days before the close of escrow. We both woke up feeling so excited and then unfortunately, in the span of 2 days, promptly circled the drain. What we at first thought was a gnarly case of food poisoning ended up being a wicked bad stomach bug and both of us had it bad. It was awful, both of us had fevers and I kept excusing myself during our walk through to go barf in the beautiful new toilets!!! Not exactly how I was hoping to cristen the joint, for sure. It was really hard to get through the 7th and 8th, I was glued to the couch, and on the 9th (move day), I wasn't much better. Luckily, Rob's was a lesser gnarly case than mine (that's a clinical term, look it up) so he had to take over with all the moving on the 9th. I could barely lift my sorry butt off the couch, much less have to actually lift something heavy, bwaha!

Plus, we have some amazing friends that chipped in - I'm looking at you Sparkay! Alex swung by on his way to a sales call and helped Rob take a bunch of loads from the rental to the Uhaul.

Speaking of the rental: I told you we looked like an episode of Hoarders and I wasn't kidding: check out what our place looked like on move day - we were absolutely stuffed to the gills with crap!!!I was worthless that day and basically held open doors, took photos and tried to stay out of the way with my puking-moaning-"just kill me now" self. Galileo sure thought he was helping by following Rob on each and every load out to the Uhaul...wonder if he thought we'd magically forget we ever had a bichon and leave him behind? Rob was amazing, look at his handy work!
We eventually had to part ways (waaaaah!) and Rob took the Uhaul to pick up our outdoor furniture we ordered while I packed up El Diablo Blanco and headed for the new house! Here's my copilot being oh-so helpful with his navigation skills.I promised Rob I wouldn't go inside without him, so after getting our keys from the Shea staff, G and I kicked it in the garage and waited, which wasn't bad since even driving over wore me out (I'd had all of 3 saltines and a sprite over the previous 3 days, so let's just say I was running on fumes but I rallied dangit). And here came the Uhaul rumbling up the cul-d-sac! It's official, we're home!!! Our first official family photo in front of the pad:We set the camera on automatic and Rob carried me across the threshold. Man is he lucky I'm such a shadow of my former self, things could have ended a lot uglier had this been several years ago. These pics crack me up:

And then it was back to work, unloading the Uhaul
and again, thankfully, Sparks came over to lend a hand.G supervised. One of the first things we set up is our new courtyard, we love this space! We've spent almost every meal out there and it's the best. G did some quality-control and checked out the furniture.
The rest of the night went by in a blur - believe it or not, after all that crazy manual labor, Rob actually had a softball game that he played in! I rallied for about 4 cabinets worth of contact paper and then I went back to the rental for our last night there. Man, were we glad to be done with that place - it was a lot of fun while it lasted, but once we had a taste of the good life at our house, it was torture to go back!
