NYC!

Rob had a last minute business trip to Jersey City come up last week and we decided I should join him.  Just like with LA, I was pretty nervous because I was pretty dizzy and I had no idea how I'd do on my own, but I figured worst case scenario, I'd just hang out at the hotel during the day and veg out on movies or something.  Plus, we figured it would be a great trial run before our big Australia trip and I'll tell you what, it was AMAZING!!!!!

It was only a 2 night trip - we flew in on the red-eye Monday night and left Thursday, so I had 2 1/2 days to wander around Manhattan by myself.  I was pretty nervous to see not only how I would do symptoms-wise, but also how I would manage to navigate the subway system on my own.  I mean, let's be honest, even before vertigo hit, I was never the navigator of the fam. :)

But, I did great!  People were so friendly whenever I would ask questions or directions and I just took it super easy and gentle on myself.  The leaves were gorgeous and I just wandered slowly and LOVED trying out the new camera.  I found so much joy and was so distracted from my dizziness.  Here's some highlights of my first day and then the complete slideshow at the end if interested.

With this huge storm, it's just unreal that the same streets where I was walking are now flooded and without power!  I pray these people are now safe and sound, how scary.

The PATH subway from Jersey City was just an easy 10 minute ride that dropped me right off at the World Trade Center stop (I went to the memorial on my last day, will post those pics later).  I absolutely love the symbolism of the church across the street that survived the terrorist attacks, it's even more stunning right now in the fall.
I ended up at central park and roamed for a while enjoying the leaves....

and then ended up at the Met....with a big ol' pretzel!  It's mandatory.

There was an Andy Warhol special exhibition and this room was just full of joy with these big helium balloons - you could punch them as they floated around...I spent a lot of time here, it was great.

And my favorite, Van Gogh!!!!!!!!

After the Met, I took the subway to the High Line Park.  I had never been there but it was recommended to me and I'm so glad I went - gorgeous, and a nice stroll!
And then back to the hotel - here was the view of the Freedom Tower from our hotel in Jersey City.  Gorgeous!
After a nap (seriously, NYC wiped me out - this girl is used to sitting my butt on the couch all day!), Rob and I went out to an amazing dinner.

Sauteed mushrooms, oysters, poutain, mustard crusted salmon, scallops with mushroom risotto...slurp!
There was even live jazz, it was lovely.  What a great first day!!!

Here's all of day 1:
