Our new toy!!

We got a new camera, a fancy-pants DSLR that we've had on our bucket list for a while....funny how going through health crap can kick one's butt into gear in terms of getting around to do the things you've "always" been meaning to do.  Life is short!  Gotta get to it!  Anyhoo, with our Australia trip coming up, we figured now would be a good time for the camera, so here she is!  I'm calling her Liebs after Annie Liebowitz, Rob's calling it Ansel after, well, Ansel Adams (guess that was fairly obvious).  She's a Nikon 5100 with a Tamron 18-270 lens - we got amazing deals on both.

I'm already in love and having so much fun shooting just in our backyard.  Already this camera blows my mind, I've only had point and shoot cameras and this is amazing.  Here's a sampling of just what this camera can do, and mind you - I know NOTHING about photography...I'm so impressed!

First, I had to pose with Liebs, and as Rob pointed out, I'm such a Noobie, I left the lens cap on, ha!

We went to lunch to celebrate our new purchase, and I was way more interested in my camera than my food...which is probably the first time those words have ever been uttered by me.

I don't know what its called but I love that effect where the subject is all is in focus and the background is blurry (um, it's probably called "focus" you weirdo), so pretty!
Our first "self portrait", needs some work, it was awkward to hold that sucker.
I took this shot all the way across the room - love that zoom!
Again, zoomed up the wazoo!  Love that precious subject.
Its amazing, this was shot AFTER the sun had gone down and it was almost dark!  Can you believe it?
I love this look G's giving me.  "Mom, stop taking pics of me!"  (this was about 100 shots in, poor dude, I was interrupting PNT: prime napping time)

I caught a gorgeous yellow/green bird on the left tree - he's hard to see but he was a quick little sucker.

I'm amazed you can see the beading of water on the leaves!
 Hummingbird!
Hummingbird profile up in the tree, kinda hard to see.  I blame the photographer.

Same shot, different focal point.  So fun!!!

I'm sure you're all bored to tears, but I love this camera so much!!!

so much fun!! So - your depth of field (http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials/depth-of-field.htm) determines how much of that blurred background (bokeh :)) you get. There are some terms for you. :) http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/bokeh.htm
Then you can seem even fancier. Love your shots!! :)
A new camera is near the top of my list of things that bring me joy. :)
